Article: 10 weeks' jail for manager fined for taking bribes
Summary:
A building received bribes from a cleaning company in exchange for not complaining about their services. The manager was found guilty of collecting a total of $22,800 over a period of three years. He was sentenced to 10 weeks in jail on Thursday.
Response:
I feel that corruption should not be condoned in all kinds of organizations and governments. We should act upon our values of honesty and integrity and should not be tempted by material gains like money. In order to ensure a stable and efficient organization or government, incorruptibility should be practised at all levels of work, be it the Chairman or the deliveryman.

  1. I agree with your opinion. Corruption is one of the biggest global issues of our time. Corruption fuels inequality and leads people in the country below poverty lines. Bribery undermines the rule of law and the principle of fair competition and entrenches bad governance in such countries. I feel that bribery is morally wrong and it is a despicable act to gain one's needs. Bribery would not boost the country's economy instead it will harm it, resulting in the loss of jobs and necessities for citizens

  2. I agree that any form of corruption should not be tolerated as it is unfair to others. Although the manager received money to prevent any complains, he should be honest and refuse the bribe. This can also help the cleaning company to improve their services. I think that people need to learn to resist the temptation of money in order for a fairer society. Corruption is a very important issue as this causes rich people to become richer and poor people to become poorer and those whom actually work hard, they tend to not get what they deserve.

  3. I personally feel that corruption could not be avoided as people are often tempted to personally gain for your own needs. However, corruption should be stopped. If many people have fallen to greed, the world will become very unfair and everyone will suffer. Everyone should be honest and uphold integrity and stop accepting bribes.

  4. I think that the manager should not be tempted by money as what he is doing will set a bad example for his employees. This will also influence other people in the company to follow in his footsteps and the company might go bankrupt if this "cycle" continues. If he was not caught by the law,he may commit greater crimes later .Which company would want to employ a person with no integrity? Therefore no matter how high ranking they are in the company they should live up to their virtues instead of being momentarily tempted by money as they will suffer the serious consequences in the end.

  5. I agree with you. However corruption is definetly inevitable. Most people would succumb to temptation and would do anything to get their money. And so it is the responsibility of the upper ranking workers to set a good example for the other workers to ensure that the corruption rate is lower. If all fails, follow the late Chairman Mao's method and investigate corruption thoroughly and punish the corrupted workers harshly. This will enable the company to grow and become a corrupt free place.

  6. I agree that corruption should not be found anywhere in the world. However, humans were born greedy so it is pretty much unavoidable that people fall to bribes. But still, we should always try our best to have interrify for if not, the whole world would be much more peaceful to live in, without evil and corruption.

  7. Indeed, human beings may decide to do good or evil. Greed can cause people to succumb to temptations. However, people still have a choice in the actions they take. As some of you have pointed out, for law and order, fair and just society, corruption must not be tolerated. Strong deterrents may help prevent high rates of corruption but the development of a person's character is most important in creating a community where humans show their capacity for the higher virtues of mankind.

  8. Yes I agree, education from young can shape a person's values and virtues. For example, in school, we have Character and Citizenship Education (CCE), which inculcates moral values in us and helps us to grow as a person. This way, we will grow up to be a more responsible person who listens to his own conscience and not succumb to monetary temptations
