Personal Response

My personal response to the article "More Responsible Use of Internet is Needed"
Summary:
This article said that some people had the temerity and the ingratitude to falsify a death notice about Mr Lee Kuan Yew before he actually died and with malicious intent. Freedom of speech does not allow people to do this kind of offensive things as whether or not people like him we cannot deny that he has kept Singapore peaceful and safe. The author also said that there were recent reports of bad behavior by bloggers and influencers. He thinks that more responsible use of the Internet is needed and authorities need to take firm action against the creators of the hoax website.
Reflection:
I agree with the writer that the authorities need to mete out harsh punishments to the creators of the hoax website, especially with the recent reports of bad behavior by bloggers and influencers, to serve as a warning to irresponsible Internet users. I feel that it is indeed appalling to see people making a fake death notice about Mr Lee Kuan Yew. It shows their audacity and their ingratitude to someone who transformed the lives of Singapore for the better. Without him, those perpetrators may not even have the privilege to be using the Internet. They may disagree with his policies, but they should at least show some respect. Majority of Singapore and even leaders around the world wish him well yet they made a fake death notice about him and cause a rather large commotion. Internet users should be more sensitive to others' feelings when they post things on social media and be more responsible.

  1. I agree with the writer that more responsible use of the Internet is needed and authorities need to take firm actions against the creators of the hoax website. They have atrocious manners as they actually falsify a death notice about Mr Lee Kuan Yew before he actually died.Indubitably, without Mr Lee,Singapore would not be what she is today. They would not be even using the internet.I feel infuriated upon seeing people making a fake death notice about Mr Lee Kuan Yew.Mr Lee sacrificed no less than his life in exchange for our well-being,prosperity,security and peace, yet internet users not only displayed their ingratitude towards Mr Lee but also fake a death notice about Mr Lee.Internet users should be grateful towards Mr Lee's lifelong dedication and spare a thought for others.

  2. I agree that more responsible use of the the Internet is needed and firm actions against creators of hoax websites should be taken. Faking a death notice before Mr Lee Kuan Yew died is extremely disrespectful. Mr Lee has spent his whole life building and developing Singapore into the successful country she is today. Without him, we cannot enjoy the luxury and peace we have. We should all be grateful towards Mr Lee for his great contributions to Singapore and be more responsible.

  3. I agree with the author that we should be more responsible when we use the Internet. If there is existence of hoax website, the authorities should take legal actions against the creators of the hoax website. Beside the fake death notice about Mr Lee Kuan Yew, there is also bloggers beating the drum about Mr Lee Kuan Yew's death. Mr Lee Kuan Yew is Singapore's first prime minister. No matter how much the bloggers dislike about his policies of the country or his actions, I think that they should respect Mr Lee Kuan Yew as one of the forefathers of Singapore. Without him, Singapore will not have what it has today. Without him, the bloggers will surely not lead such a good life now. The bloggers should be grateful for his contributions to Singapore and do not take everything for granted.

  4. I agree with your views on the need for punitive measures against irresponsible use on the Internet. In this particular incident, indeed the creator of this hoax displayed a callous disregard for Mr Lee and his family. Such behaviour should not be condoned. It is a fact that Mr Lee has been instrumental in taking Singapore out of several crises and dedicated his whole to bringing a better life for Singaporeans. Some of the policies might be critiqued but the positive outcomes of housing, defence and education policies are undeniable. From GDP per capita of about 500USD in 1965 to about 76000 USD in 2013, the economic success of SIngapore is no small feat. The world leaders who descended on this small island to pay their respects to Mr Lee testifies to the impact that Mr Lee has had on the world.
